It’s beautiful out here on the farm. Pretty snowy and cold, but beautiful. It’s worth lugging around my big camera (Nikon D200) to get some shots of the landscape. It’s amazing how COLD the camera gets when I’m out with it.
I’ve been teaching my dad how to use his new Apple MacBook. He is a freelance journalist, and we have set him up with a microphone and GarageBand to record his stories with. It’s taking a while for him to make the transition from analogue tape machine to digital computer! But I think he’s starting to get the hang of it now.
Rowena is making cookies right now that smell AMAZING… Their cat Bonnie is really cute. She’s dreaming now and her paws are twitching as she catches imaginary birds by the birdbath.
They have done some great work on the OLD farmhouse out here. They have added a HUGE addition that’s all wood with lots of windows and skylights. It’s made the whole place MUCH larger. Plus a sunroom of the back (way too cold to enjoy it now).

It’s always so nice to come home to Regina. Things always seem to be ALMOST how I left them. I’m always amazed how much SKY you can see in Regina. My mom lives in the Cathedral Area 13th Avenue Between Albert Street and Elphanstone. They are NOW starting to call it THE VILLAGE (sound familiar New Yorkers?) Well FORGET Grenich Village, this is Regina’s Cathederal Area I’m talking about. What was wrong with Cathederal Area? Maybe too many religious overtones? “Shops won’t even be OPEN on Sunday?” people might mistakenly suppose. The even have a website, I think it’s shopthevillage.ca.
It’s a great neighbourhood to be sure. Some nice cafés and cothing stores, even a cool modern furniture store. My mom, though retired from the Regina Public Library, now earns minimum wage at a cute little shop called Indigo. It’s kind of Regina’s version of Frock (in Toronto’s Polish area).
I can only ever seem to find two or three people that I still know, who are here. This time I called Jason Plumb, Grant Roland and Shelley Kambeitz. Jason was in Saskatoon, but Grant, Shelley and I went out on the town one night. Grant’s a dentist and Shelley’s a nurse, guess I’m a musician. I felt a false sense of security, that if I got into a fight, and lost some teeth, I was with the right people! I’m sure they felt the same about me (if we ever needed to sing for our supper etc).
Anyways, here are some shots of Regina, all with my little point and shoot (Fuji F10). It does the job, but I really should just carry around my BIG camera more often (Nikon D200).
When I head to my dad’s farm I will take more with that camera. Besides, my Fuji F10’s battery is almost dead and I didn’t pack the charger. It’s amazing how many shots you can get until it’s dead though!
It’s great to be visiting my mom. We are BOTH dyslexic, so I’m always fascinated by some of the things she says. Here are a few quotes…
“Do you like that new jazz singer…Coly Hole?”
“I’ve had a few ciders so I’m a bit TISPY…”
The geese here never leave. Because they keep PART of the lake unfrozen. They look like notes on a music staff.

We are lucky enough to be playing TWO nights at the beautiful, newly restored Rose Theatre in Brampton.
So far we've played the first show and it was amazing! The sound is really good there and the audience last night was really great! Jann was so funny!! She kept us all laughing, with tons of new stories for ALL of us. And she keeps singer better and better too. It's an honour to be singing with her. Sometimes I can't beleive I am staring at her, trying to sing exactly with her voice, it's like I go in and out of being a fan watching the show in awe, and being on stage performing myself. It's really great.
I also noticed last night, looking over at maury, that I wish I could take photos with my eyes. The lighting looks so great. And that's my best friend standing there beside me! After 20 years, we are still making music together..and still having fun too!
Russ is feeling really sick, but you can't tell by listening to him. I don't think I could do it if I was that sick. I can barely keep up with these guys even on a good day! Maury and Lyle are playing really well together too (as per usual) and we are ALL having fun singing. The backup parts are sounding really THICK and AIRY. Anyway, totally loving every minute of it!
